Basement & Crawlspace Dehumidifiers in Massachusetts
Just because you have a basement waterproofing system or crawl space waterproofing system doesn't mean your basement or crawl space is completely dry.
Mastering Humidity - The Anti-Mold
There are several ways humidity develops in your basement in Massachusetts.
1. Capillary action. Meaning wicking. for example a block wall may not leak, but it feels damp because it's wicking the water inside it to the surface like a sponge.
2. Water vapor coming through your walls and floor.
3. Exterior air leaking into your basement.
Whenever the outside air is warmer than the inside air - especially when it's a humid day outside in the Agawam or Worcester areas, we are likely to have a condensation problem in our underground structure. This is due to Relative Humidity of air goes up 2.2% for every one-degree you cool it. Basements are always cool because they are below ground. And we know a house is like a chimney - air flows upwards, allowing air to escape the upper levels, with new make-up air being sucked in at the lower levels causing high relative humidity levels, allowing mold to grow and dust mites to thrive.
So when it's a hot and humid summer day in Springfield Massachusetts, rain or not, your basement or crawlspace may be the wettest it has been all year!
